Wire Mesh Gift Box

Materials:

  • Aluminium Wire Mesh (Available at hardware stores)
  • Red Satin Ribbon
  • Craft Glue
  • Needle and Thread
  • Scissors

Directions:

Cut out a 10 by 10 inch piece of Aluminium Wire Mesh. Make 2 inch deep cuts on all of the four sides exactly at a distance of 2 inches from the right and left. That is, 2 cuts on each side.

2. Bend the sides of the box inwards. To keep edges straight, keep a ruler on your 2 inch cut and then fold in the edges.

3. On each side, you will have 2 inches extending out of the final box size (i.e. 8 inches). Fold the extra two inches at a right angle as shown. You will now have an 8" by 8" box. If any edges stick out, use a needle and thread to sew them in place.

4. Now cut another square out of the wire mesh to make the lid of the box. The size of this square will be 1/4" more than the size of the final box on all sides i.e. 8 - 1/4". Fold 1/4" sides inwards without making any cuts. Instead, pinch the sides out as shown in the image of the completed project.

5. Once the box and the lid are done, you need to cover all the pricky edges. Use craft glue to glue satin ribbon on all edges and corners. Do corners as shown.

6. When the box and the lid are done, decorate the box with a simple bow and some artificial flowers. Line the inside with paper or net and you have a lovely gift to give to someone!

TIPS:

  • These boxes are ideal for gifting homemade, foil wrapped chocolates or cookies.

  • You may increase or decrease the size of the boxes as you wish.

  • You can also make a rectangular box. Increase the length of the wire mesh piece and continue in the same way.

  • Use heavy scissors.

  • Be careful when handling wire mesh as you may hurt your fingers. You can also get the required pieces cut to suitable size right at the hardware store.
