Candle Drapes
Large drape fits 6"-diameter candles; small drape
fits 3"-diameter candles.
Skill level: Intermediate
MATERIALS:
AUNT LYDIA’S “Classic Crochet” size 10 thread,
Art. 154, 100% mercerized cotton (300, 350 and 400 yard
balls).
Amount: 1 Ball No. 1 White will make
several drapes of either size.
Steel Crochet Hooks: 1.50mm [US 7] and
1.00mm [US 12]. 216 6mm pearls for large drape; 96 6mm
pearls for small drape
GAUGE: 16 dc = 2". CHECK YOUR
GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

= double crochet; lp(s) = loop(s);
pat = pattern; rep = repeat;
sc = single crochet; sl st
= slip stitch; sp(s) = space(s); * or ** =
repeat whatever follows the * or ** as indicated; []
= work directions given in brackets the number of times
specified.
INSTRUCTIONS:
LARGE DRAPE
With larger hook, ch 120; join with a sl st to form a
ring, being careful not to twist ch.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 4
sc;
* 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc; rep from
* around; join with a sl st to first sc – 144 sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, skip first sc, dc in next sc
and in each sc around; join with a sl st to top of ch-3.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc
in each dc around; join.
Rnd 4: Ch 5, skip first 2 sc, * dc in next
sc, ch 2, skip one sc; rep from * around; join to 3rd ch of
ch-5 – 72 sps.
Rnd 5: Sl st in next ch, ch 1, * sc in ch-2
sp, ch 6, skip next ch-2 sp; rep from * around; join to
first sc – 36 lps.
Rnd 6: Sl st in next 3 ch, ch 1, * sc in
ch-6 lp, ch 10; rep from * around; join.
Rnd 7: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * [sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 10] 5 times, sc in next lp, ch 1; draw up a
lp to the width of the pearl, drop the lp from the hook,
insert smaller hook into pearl and then into the dropped lp,
pull thread lp through the pearl adjusting so that the pearl
is even with the previous ch-1, ch 1, remove smaller hook
from lp and insert larger hook to proceed –
bead made; rep from * around; join to first sc.
Rnd 8: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * [sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 10] 4 times, sc in next lp, ch 1, [bead] 3
times; rep from * around; join.
Rnd 9: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * [sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 10] 3 times, sc in next lp, ch 1, [bead] 5
times; rep from * around; join.
Rnd 10: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * [sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 10] twice, sc in next lp, ch 1, [bead] 7 times;
rep from * around; join.
Rnd 11: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 10, sc in next lp, ch 1, [bead] 9 times; rep
from * around; join.
Rnd 12: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 1, [bead] 11 times; rep from * around; join.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
SMALL DRAPE
With larger hook, ch 60; join with a sl st to form a
ring, being careful not to twist ch.
Rnd 1: Rep Rnd 1 of large drape – 72 sc.
Rnd 2: Rep Rnd 4 of large drape – 36 sps.
Rnd 3: Rep Rnd 5 of large drape – 18 lps.
Rnd 4: Rep Rnd 6 of large drape.
Rnd 5: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * [sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 10] twice, sc in next lp, ch 1, bead; rep from
* around; join to first sc.
Rnd 6: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 10, sc in next lp, ch 1, [bead] 3 times; rep
from * around; join.
Rnd 7: Sl st in next 5 ch, ch 1, * sc in
ch-10 lp, ch 1, [bead] 5 times; rep from * around; join.
Rnd 8: Ch 1, * sc in sc, ch 1, [bead] 7
times; rep from * around; join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
CAUTION: Remove drape before lighting candle. Burn
candle within sight, out of reach of children and pets, and
never on or near anything that can catch fire.
